Starve Your Flesh, Put Your Spirit on Steroids!

Starve Your Flesh, Put Your Spirit on Steroids!
Cottontown Bible Study 2/15/2015
John 4:19, 21, 23-24 GNB
“I see you are a prophet, sir,” the woman said. Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, the time will come when people will not worship the Father either on this mountain or in Jerusalem.  But the time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God's Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants.  God is Spirit, and only by the power of his Spirit can people worship him as he really is.”
Galatians 4:29 GNB
At that time the son who was born in the usual way persecuted the one who was born because of God's Spirit; and it is the same now.
The stronger son overcomes the weaker. So we must starve our flesh, put our Spirit on steroids,  a choice made with our soul.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 "And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." (ASV
sarx; psychë, and pneuma
The soul decides whether the flesh or the Spirit are fed. It's a discipline decision.
I'm just me,  I can't change who I am, I'm just going to be true to myself: all ways of saying I'm going to let my flesh run my soul,  mind will and emotions.
Kind of like saying I'm just going to think with my penis.
A choice has to be made in the mind, that's enforced in the will,  not to let emotions take over. You have to chose to be a spiritual man, who isn't run by emotions, who forces his flesh down by act of will, so your spirit to take over,  and be guided by the Spirit.
Rom 8:12 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Changing the flesh is hard. Diets don't work.
Working out and building muscle isn't a two week thing. It's a conscious decision how you will act and eat for the rest of your life. Same goes for the Spirit,  there is no quick fix plan,  it's daily discipline.
It's specifically identifying the cravings of the flesh and not giving in,  learning to say "No that's just flesh".
It's realizing that flesh stuff isn't you,  that isn't what you want, you want Spirit stuff.
Feeding our flesh vs feeding our spirit
Feeding Flesh: idle / Idol time : TV,  music, video games, porn, useless conversation, Facebook
Feeding Spirit: Word,  Prayer, worship music, godly conversation,  meditation, fasting
This is what worshiping in spirit is. Our lives focused in starving flesh and feeding Spirit
Romans 12:1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.
